Rabid Animal found in the City of Clyde

On Sunday, March 19th, the City of Clyde Animal Control was notified by a resident of the Woodland neighborhood of a cat that had bitten several residents. Animal Control placed the cat in quarantine, and on March 21st, the cat died. The City of Clyde immediately sent the cat to the Texas Department of State Health Services Zoonotic lab in Austin to determine if the cat had rabies. We were notified on March 24th that the cat was positive for rabies. The residents that were bitten have been referred for rabies treatment. We ask that residents avoid animals displaying unusual behavior. Wild animals that are unusually friendly or display other unnatural behaviors may have the rabies virus. Please discourage contact between domesticated animals and wildlife.

Clyde Animal Control has begun trapping feral cats in the Woodland neighborhood to contain and control the spread of the rabies virus. We ask that if any residents in the Woodland neighborhood had contact with any feral cats between March 8th and the 21st, they contact Terry Davis at (325) 439-1847.
